Job Title: Director, Accounting Operations

Salary: $106,000 - $140,000
Position Overview:
The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) is seeking a Director, Accounting Operations to oversee key accounting functions and support financial operations. This role will focus on grants management, financial reporting, and month-end close processes to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
The ideal candidate will have nonprofit experience and the ability to manage accounting processes effectively while collaborating with cross-functional teams. Reporting to the Controller, the Director will work closely with internal teams to ensure compliance with 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) regulations and deliver exceptional customer service across departments. This position offers a unique opportunity to oversee core financial functions while driving operational efficiencies and fostering a collaborative, solutions-oriented work environment.

Grants and Financial Reporting:
- Support financial operations for grants and ensure compliance with 501(c)(3) regulations.
- Provide financial analysis for key stakeholders to support decision making in 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) environment.
- Collaborate with program staff to align expenditures with grant and program budgets throughout the grant period.
- Prepare financial reports and ensuring accuracy and transparency for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead month-end close activities, including reviewing and preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and adjustments.
- Partner with the Controller on audit preparation, budget and policy implementation.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP standards and maintain internal control procedures to support accurate financial operations.
Collaboration and Process Improvement:
- Work closely with department heads and program leads to address accounting needs and provide financial insights.
- Ensure effective communication across teams to align financial data with program operations.
- Use Sage Intacct to manage accounting operations and ensure data integrity.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement efficient, systematic solutions to enhance operational performance.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Support the Controller in managing and mentoring accounting staff, ensuring clear roles, responsibilities, and professional development opportunities.\
- Foster a positive work environment by promoting teamwork, continuous learning, and high levels of customer service.
- Encourage service-oriented leadership to meet the needs of internal stakeholders effectively.

We Are Looking for Team Players Who Meet the Following Criteria:
- Personal qualities of integrity, accountability, and a customer service mindset, with a solutions-oriented approach to overseeing accounting processes.
- Minimum of a BA in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred but not required.
- 5-10 years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment with exposure to 501(c)(3) financial reporting.
- Proficiency in month-end close activities, grants management, and nonprofit accounting for 501(c)(3) organizations.
- Experience with Sage Intacct or other accounting systems preferred, with the ability to streamline processes and improve operational efficiency.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to interpret financial data.
- Proven ability to collaborate across teams, fostering productive relationships with program leads and department heads.
- A commitment to mentoring, training, and developing staff to promote a positive, high-performing work environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to translate financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders effectively.
- A process-oriented mindset that focuses on identifying root causes of recurring issues and implementing dependable, systematic solutions.
Salary Range: $106,000 - $140,000 annually. This salary range represents a good faith estimate of the lowest to the highest salary for this position. The final salary offered will be based on qualifications and experience.
